$100 revolution
MIT's Director of the famous "Future of Learning Group" in Pasadena send this multiple message: 1) current learning
systems disempower, discourage, and disengage, and disenfranchise
students from low-income and at-risk backgrounds (who drop out of
school at alarming rates despite the fact that they can very clearly
"do the work"--they just get bored and alienated). Enter MIT's Future
of Learning Lab, which has them building the most amazingly complex
hands-on projects to build advanced 21st century math skills. And
which plans, sometime this month, to begin rolling out the already
notorious $100 laptops. So that students around the world can
experience the power of the internet first hand. Imagine going from a
classroom with no books or even pencils to the instant unlimited access
those of us on the other side of the digital divide now routinely
enjoy. Genuinely revolutionary. Stay tuned for further explosions.
