Haier has announced its latest yet most innovative UMPC - The X6. Driven by an Intel Core 2 Duo L2500 1.83GHz or the L2400 1.66GHz processor, 1GB of RAM, and a 30GB of HDD, the X6 without doubts gives the best storage capacity in its class. It also speak highly of the WiFi 802.11b/g, GPS, and a Bluetooth connectivity as an add-on.
Clevo, at the CeBIT 2007, announced its ‘M590KE’ notebook that shows built-in subwoofers. The machine is powered by an AMD Turion 64 X2
mobile processor and touts a 20-inch WSXGA+ display, nVidia nForce4 SLI chipset, and up to 2GB of DDR2 RAM. The M590KE ensures great sound
quality, thanks to the SRS WOW 3D sound technology, integrates 4X speakers, and adopted subwoofers.
Toshiba is expected to release a new model in its Qosmio notebook series. The new Qosmio G40 comes in a black and white finish with some great
spec bumps. Other than the usual 2GHz Core 2 Duo processor, the laptop will be equipped with speedier 512MB GeForce Go 8600 GT video for
improved 3D performance, an HDMI 1.3 output, notably a HD DVD-R drive, 200GB hard disks for storage, and 2GB RAM.
If the price of notebooks keeps going down as fast as now then they will soon overtake desktops by the year 2011 according to an IDC report that was released Tuesday. PC shipments rose only 7.3% in Q4 of 2006, on the other hand the rise in the shipments of notebooks was 15%. If we compare the shipments for the whole year then we find that the shipments for desktop PCs grew just 2% to 138.3 million in 2006 while the shipments for portables jumped 26.3% to 82.4 million. In the U.S. the sales of notebooks surpassed desktops in 2005.
