If the price of notebooks keeps going down as fast as now then they will soon overtake desktops by the year 2011 according to an IDC report that was released Tuesday. PC shipments rose only 7.3% in Q4 of 2006, on the other hand the rise in the shipments of notebooks was 15%. If we compare the shipments for the whole year then we find that the shipments for desktop PCs grew just 2% to 138.3 million in 2006 while the shipments for portables jumped 26.3% to 82.4 million.
